Please accept my name as a candidate for the position of “Director at Large” on the ICSB Board of Directors 2012-13. During the last eight years, I have served the ICSB as an Executive Director (2004-2007) and the Senior Vice President of Membership and Affiliates (2010-2012.) I have acquired a deep institutional knowledge of the organization, appreciate its challenges, and recognize its opportunities. I seek a “Director” position so that I can continue to serve the organization while managing the demands of a new position at Babson College as the Executive Director of The Center for Women’s Leadership. If elected I will support the new SVP of Membership and Affiliates in any way needed. I will also collaborate closely with the current Women’s Entrepreneurship Committee (WEC) chair to develop the ICSB gender agenda and to advance the work of the WEC. The qualifications listed below remain relevant in support of my candidacy.
First due to my experience on the ICSB board as former ED and SVP, I have learned about the organization from the inside out. I understand its mission, have built relationships with its constituencies, learned about its history, and appreciate its future potential. It is a complex organization that has pioneered the global movement at the nexus of entrepreneurship research, education, practice and policy. There has never been a more important time than the present for ICSB to build the community of entrepreneurship experts and advocates that create economic value in the world.
Second, I am an entrepreneur. I am eager to collaborate with the ICSB board, affiliates, and international members, to seize the opportunities that will enable ICSB to continue to thrive and grow in the future. I am familiar with, yet undeterred by, the resource and logistical realities of a global, virtual non-profit organization. ICSB has accomplished much in the twelve years that I have been a member. I look forward to a chance to work with the ICSB IO and fellow board members to build on recent successes and be part of the team that works to take the organization to the next level. If nominated to the position of Director at Large, I will put forth my best thinking, practical skills, and innate abilities to all organization-wide objectives.
Finally, I am a life-long student of human systems. I am a team player. I understand organizational politics, appreciate cultural differences, and embrace wide-ranging stakeholder needs. I am energized by the challenges and rewards of organizations and the people engaged in them. ICSB is a fine example of a thriving human system whose members have consistently demonstrated vision, commitment and untiring energy to move it forward. I am prepared to remain at the table and contribute to making 2012-2013 a successful year in the ICSB legacy.
